Painting the Alla Prima Still Life
A Three Day Workshop in Dare County
Date: August 11th-13th
Time: 9:00am-4:00pm
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
Tuition: $300.00
Minimum students: 8

Workshop Outline:
This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced students
to improve their still life oil painting skills. Richard will teach his tried
and true Alla Prima Method. Students will explore all
aspects of still life paintings from set up to finish. Working on canvases
(9x12,11x14,12x16) with large brushes will help students focus on the
bigger shapes of a composition. Emphasis will be put on values,
edges, and color, and simplifying a composition to create
paintings that have unity.

Over 50 artists (including Richard) form all over the country will paint Talbot County Maryland for four days. There will be a show and sale of the work created that week at the Academy Art Museum located in Easton, Maryland.
This is the second year Richard will be a part of this event.

Workshop Outline:
This workshop will take place on the Biltmore Estate. Students will be immersed in the charm of this european like setting. The structure of this workshop is designed for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced student to improve their plein air oil painting skills. Students will explore painting from life in plein air in an Alla Prima fashion. Working on smaller canvases (pochades) with large brushes will help students focus on the bigger shapes of a composition. Emphasis will be put on simplifying a composition, values, edges, and color, and to create paintings that have unity.

First Annual Plein Air Show and Sale at Callaway Gardens
After visiting Laguna Beach, CA art events, meeting Jean Stern, Director of the Irvine Museum, and other notable California artists, Edward Callaway was inspired to create something new at Callaway Gardens; an art event unlike any other in our region.
We have invited artists from across the United States to showcase their work. Featured artists will come to Pine Mountain to capture the beauty of Callaway Gardens and other notable private and public gardens in the area.
The First Annual Plein Air Show and Sale, continues Callaway Gardens’ tradition of supporting the fine arts. This event will also help us raise funds for the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation.
This event is by invitation only.

November 7 thru 14, 2009 Artists from around the country (including Richard) will be coming to paint the Wilmington area for the week. An invitation only Preview Night will be held on Friday evening, November 13, with the artists in attendance. Saturday, November 14, the exhibition will open to the public from 9 AM to 6 PM. The 'Paint Wilmington! 2009' exhibition will be hanging through the end of December.
